Job Description Summary

This position is a member of the Network Operations Team with primary responsibility to maintain the PBX system and the physical infrastructure that supports it and the network. Establishes and implements guidelines to ensure that the current and future needs of the Institute can be met by the equipment and infrastructure in place. Additionally this position is responsible for coordinating and supporting cable TV, campus provided cell phones, audio conference bridges, and other electronic communications equipment.

Minimum Education Required Associate's degree, or vocational or technical school degree
Preferred Education Bachelor's degree
Minimum Work Experience Required 1 - 3 years
Preferred Work Experience 3 - 5 years
Minimum Knowledge Required Working knowledge of fundamental concepts, practices and procedures and ability to apply in varied situations. Uses instructions and guidelines to perform the job safety function. Periodic training will be required.

Plans, coordinates, and controls the installation, maintenance, and repair of the Institute’s communications systems; evaluates new communication systems and procedures for integration into the current system. Coordinates activities with outsourced vendors and contractors to ensure completion of projects is within timelines given.

Essential Function

Performs low voltage work as needed to install or troubleshoot RJ-45 Cat5/6, RG-59, RG-6, and 110/66 blocks wiring. Maintains the campus wiring infrastructure records including bundle entry points, demarks, fiber optics, and intra-building connections. Ensures that onsite contractors under DTS’s supervision preform data/telecommunication work within the Institute’s cable specifications.

Essential Function

Works with all departments on campus in regards to communications planning and purchasing to ensure compatibility and usefulness with the overall system. Works closely with Physical Plant and Facilities Planning & Construction on various projects requiring communication wiring. Coordinates outside vendors when scope of work is larger than internal resources can support.

Essential Function

Assumes responsibility for acquisition of all cellular telephone equipment and spare equipment for the Institute; keeps fiscal and maintenance records; prepares regulatory and special reports and correspondence. Also, assist in maintaining Telephone, Cable TV & Internet contracts with outside vendors.
