Develops and implements all required EH&S programs in order to ensure compliance with EH&S regulations including but not limited to US EPA, US OSHA, Boston Fire Department, Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), and Massachusetts Water Resources Authority (MWRA)

Essential Functions

Essential Function

Supervises the laboratory safety program; works with Chemical hygiene coordinators to implement chemical hygiene plan (CHP). Performs annual review and all necessary updates of the WIT CHP. Manages the Asbestos Control ProgramAssists WIT Facilities Management, as needed in acquiring permits and preparing and submitting regulatory reports including but not limited to MWRA permits and report, hazardous waste, Tier 2 reporting, air permits etc. Coordinates the industrial hygiene equipment management program to assure that all monitoring equipment is calibrated and certified for use. Conducts laboratory safety inspections, managed follow-up to assure proper close out of any observations. Serves as a member of the WIT Safety Committee and Laboratory Safety Sub-Committee. Supervises the chemical waste collection and disposal program. Responds to hazardous materials emergencies. Provides control and remediation of hazards. Develops and maintains a measurement system to track EH&S performance metrics (number of safety incidents etc.). Compiles, reviews, analyzes and interprets data and communicates with the Safety Committee and other stakeholders using clear, concise reporting mechanisms to achieve EH&S improvement and compliance. Provided technical consultation and recommendations to WIT Colleges and departments in matters related to occupational health and safety including but not limited to risk assessments, personal protective equipment selection and usage, and engineering controls. .

Essential Function

Oversees and seeks to continually improve all programs related to environmental health and occupational safety including but not limited to fire safety, laboratory safety, OSHA compliance chemical waste control and disposal, accident and injury investigation and reduction, safety training and industrial hygiene. Proactively facilitates compliance with WIT’s EH&S policies, governmental regulations and industry standards and guidelines.
